Scandinavian Big Mountain Championships – season ending
Now it’s done, my last competition for the winter. In the Telemark category I got second and in Alpine fifth – not bad!
We got three competition days, which meant six competition runs for me (as I made it to the finals on both categories). On Telemark class I crashed my last, rather big, cliff so I ended up on a second place. Too bad, to not win;) but I’m still happy that I skied as I wanted to and didn’t try to safe my scores… On the alpine side the competition was very high and I’m super happy that I made it top five and even managed to have three really nice runs, nice cliffs, including even one sw180, first for me on a competition, and one 360.
But of course, I want to win, so next year I have a direct goal. I just need to ski some alpine turns during the winter as well first.., need to get some skiing technique… I’m just not sure if it´s gonna happen.., skiing telemark is just too much fun! - But maybe, I guess that the seed got planted.

The beautiful Black and White mountains of Nordalsbranten.
Me getting some sun.

The week before the competition was really nice week of skiing in perfect weather!

We had some nice evening session on a small kicker at the backyard.

Adam Widen checking his line that he did on snowboard.
If you ask me, he was the coolest guy at the SBMC this year. He did nice job both in Alpine and in Snowboard categories and made one of the nicest 360´s in a competition that I have ever seen, out of a cliff during his run at the 2nd finals day.

A view by the competition arena with some nice sun.

Kristoffer Turdell got on the second place at the alpine category! This is a really big thing for him and it was really nice to see him skiing.. Our buddy Alex likes him too…

The competition in Riksgränsen is famous, as well because of the party afterwards.., it’s still the end of the season to all of us..
This year the party took place in the gym for a long time, with some guys having bench press competition at 1 in the morning… nobody seems to know why this happened. Or why it was a good idea in the first place.
April – Lofoten freeride & FourElements
Finally I made it to Lofoten!
I have been exploring the Lyngen Alps, Narvik and other close by areas to Lofoten for tens of times, but never made it all the way there before now..
And I can tell you: it´s really really nice up there!
..no matter if it rains or if the fat lady is giving it all, the everything up there is just great..
-and I´m not overdoing it;)
And, for my part, I crashed again… quite boring. But I guess that there is no way but up again!
I can start with my tailored collection of snapshots by a typical view in Lofoten:

Last but not least:

Mars – filming with FreeRadikals
Hi there,, from here,, hahaa
We´ve been having great time filming FreeRadikals for a few days. Check out how it is:

Mars – Freeride Battle, Slovenija
Slovenia – a really really nice place!
Slovenia is the third most forest-covered country in Europe after Finland and Sweden. But up in Scandinavia we are missing the Alps.
Kanin is one of the biggest resorts in Slovenia and the first skiing resort there that I´m visiting. Once again, a really positive surprise for me: fantastic landscape, nice people, great food and good skiing.
The competition was good too. Once again were very lucky with the weather: wind still, fresh new snow of 20cm on the top of solid base. The competition face was quite short, but really varying and playful.
I had a nice qualification run with two cliffs and one double cliff. Unfortunately I hit a lot of rocks on my way down, but luckily din’t crash. And got second!
The finals was held on the face next to the qualification face and some parts of the qualification face was actually included in the finals too (The both of the winning lines was there). I chose to ski on the new areas and had a nice line on my mind. But but, once again I didn’t really ski that well and miss my line a bit, so I can’t say that I´m too satisfied, but got seventh anyway. Not bad, but not good neither..

And here you can see some of mine snapshots from the event:

On the way back we had a nice stop at Lugano. +18 in shadow and nice break from snow.
February – great days in Andermatt
Back in Andermatt, back in business..
Now we got around 40cm of fresh new snow and shiny sun on top of that – couldn’t be better..
The perfect conditions means a lot of work. A very talented and hungry swedish photographer Daniel Rönnbäck came to visit me and that meant waking up six o’clock five days a row.
Free Radikals came to visit me with my good friend Per Jonsson as well and we had really good conditions for some filming for a few days. The lines got maybe a bit too big.., resulted for some juicy crashes.
Now some resting and next stop will be Freeride Battle in Kanin, Slovenia.

Getting ready for a photo-shoot…
February – MonteRosa: Mystic Freeride – 2nd!
I’m really really happy, made it – finally!
This time I made my runs in a competition without crashing or other mistakes. I got second, among alpine skiers in Mystic Freeride, a three star FWQ even in MonteRosa, Italy.
My qualification run was solid, maybe a bit slow and safe, but I got in the finals and in finals I chose a line that is me. A line with nice cliffs, some speed, some exposed skiing and a nice 360.

Ooh la la, next stop Slovenia…
February – Filming and shooting in Andermatt
Now it´s been really, really sunny and dry.
So I´m very lucky to be in Andermatt, where the snow stays good weeks after the last snow fall. Now we have been taking pictures a few days with a swedish photographer, Patrik Lindqvist, and got some clips for Free Radikals as well..
Even I didn’t really believe that we could actually do some nice stuff up here while it´s rock hard all over the Alps, at least as far as I know.

February – Bigmountain Hochfügen – almost got it…
Austria. Humpadumpa, leather pants, beer, sun, dancing, good snow and skiing.
My third competition for this season was the Bigmountain Hohfügen in Austria, close to Innsbruck. A four star FWQ event and an important competition for me and my self esteem.. So far I didn’t really get a good feeling in my competitions yet.

Now the set up was really perfect for me; good snow, playful and relatively short face “the ost wand” and great weather. I chose a really nice line with four nice airs and skied it almost perfectly, until the last cliff, where I unfortunately hit a hidden rock just under the take-off, . Buuuh, .. It was so close to be a really good run and a nice place on the result list, but no – I still need to wait for some better luck…
Anyway, I it was close and with a bit of a better luck I´m sure it will be better..

January – EngadinSnow 2011 FWT – WILD CARD – crash bang bang….
What can I say. My life time chance. I feel super strong and totally ready to compte against the best alpine skiers in the world: I do my worst performance ever.
I really don´t know what went wrong. The day was blue, the snow was perfect for me. I had it all and just collapsed.
Don´t feel too good at the moment but still there somewhere inside me I (after two competitions that ended so bad) feel better than ever. So I guess that I just need to take this a lesson that, well, I don´t know what. But anyway there is always a next competition and you always get a next chance…
Maybe some of you want to know what happened, so I can write you of my run:
At the very beginning, when you push yourself out from the start gate, my skis got a bit stuck on the metal pipe on the snow and I lost my balance a bit. Maybe that´s why, three meters after, I lost my balance again and tumbled down about 30m at the wrong side of the competition face, so I needed to climb up 20m before I could actually start my run.
My first cliff was good, even though I needed a bit more distance to get down the speed what I was expecting of. My second cliff I took as “a table top jump”, but took a bit too little speed, so I landed on a rock and on an old landing hole -> crashed and tumbled big time. I still kept going, but again, took too little speed off a cliff and landed on a rock and a hole again. Tumbeled down big time and lost even my ski (which I only did once since I changed to the NTN bindings).
So I needed to ski on one ski and on my but down the rest of the run. That wasn´t really the way I wanted my entry to the FWT to be, I wanted to win, hehe, of course.
So, as you know, I didn´t win. I fucked up my run. I guess, again, that: “c’est la vie”. Next time, will come then some day. Now I go home to lick my sores and to have fun skiing in Andermatt again. Maybe drink some beer, sew a new pair of nice pants and in the next competition, I want to win again!

..and back to Andermatt to play on skis: to have fun
